Looking North towards The Cairngorms. Linking snow patches between the heather initially we skied from 600 metres. Higher up the cover is still good but no more skiing back to the car for the moment.
At the profile site the probe went all the way in; 3 metres of snow. The snow pack is again isothermal. The surface was soft with a thin layer of slush between 2 & 4 cms depth. Once below the slush the snow is all "knife" hard "melt freeze" grains with their size varying between 2 & 5mm. The layers of ice at 25 & 46 can be clearly seen. Remember you can see the daily snow profile in the full SAIS report.
