A slow thaw at lower altitudes

It was another great day to be in the Cairngorms and many routes were being climbed in the Corries today. It is still freezing over the tops but there is a steady thaw at lower altitudes. A thin rain crust is sitting on top of the snow at the moment, this could disappear if the temperature rises to above the tops tomorrow. On this E aspect at 1100 metres the snowpack was still very cold and several weak layers were noted especially this graupel layer.

The RAF mountain Rescue out and about practicing their winter rescue skills.
